Simon van der Stel’s manor house, a masterpiece of Cape Dutch architecture, survives as a museum in Grote Constantia. Set in beautiful grounds, the estate can get busy with tour groups, but is large enough to avoid the crowds. The large tasting room is the first thing on your right as you enter the estate. More is free Orientation Centerwhich provides an overview of Grote Constantia’s history and beautifully restored house.

gave Clovet CellarWith a beautiful molded pediment, the estate was originally a wine cellar. It now houses an exhibition of old vehicles and storage vessels. Tours of the modern cellar are also available including a tasting for R100.

You can download two audio guide apps from the Groot Constantia website and buy a Visitor’s Route Experience ticket (R95), which includes a taster of the estate’s attractions and entry. Another option for visitors is a wine and chocolate pairing for R125.
